A steel moment connection frames a beam into a column web. The beam flanges are welded to the column using complete joint penetration welds, typically specified for top and bottom flanges. Continuity plates matching the beam flange thickness, fabricated from ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel, are positioned inside the column web aligned with the beam flanges. Additional continuity plates are required on each side if dimension x exceeds three inches. The beam web is connected using a bolted shear tab with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds on both sides.
