A reinforced concrete shear wall boundary element encloses an embedded structural steel shape. The boundary element measures two feet three inches by two feet two inches with an adjacent wall thickness of one foot two inches. Vertical reinforcement consists of sixteen number five bars distributed symmetrically. Confinement is provided by number four closed ties spaced at five inches on center along with number four crossed ties at five inches on center. Wall reinforcement transitions into the boundary element with two-inch typical clearances and lap configurations coordinated per wall elevation six on sheet S5.05.
