A one-quarter inch thick flooring support plate attaches to the top flange of a steel beam or channel to provide a minimum of two inches of bearing length for checkered plate or grating. The detailer must size the support plate to meet the required bearing length. One-quarter inch thick stiffener plates weld to the web of the beam or channel at one foot six inches on center, with a minimum of two stiffener plates required. These stiffeners attach to the web using three-sixteenths inch fillet welds on both sides.
