Steel structural columns are joined end-to-end using complete joint penetration groove welds with double-bevel weld preparation, omitting the weld within the column k-zone as specified. Contact ends require a straight, smooth mill cut typical on both column sections. A contractor-provided lifting plate is positioned within the splice zone for erection. The connection is detailed for steel framing columns sized per plan.
