A steel column sits on a steel base plate anchored to a concrete footing with anchor bolts, with the base plate set on one and one-half inches of non-shrink grout. The footing provides a three-inch minimum concrete cover over the reinforcement. A concrete pour back surrounds the column base, isolated from the surrounding slab by a full-depth isolation joint. An elastomeric joint sealant is provided at the top of the joint where the slab remains exposed, and sub-base material is placed beneath the slab per the geotechnical report.
