A steel beam bears directly onto a steel cap plate sized per the column schedule, welded to the top of a steel column. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is provided on each side of the beam web, secured with quarter-inch fillet welds welded three sides. The connection assembly transfers vertical loads from the framing beam down through the column support.
