A structural steel beam supports composite metal decking with a sloped concrete slab and diagonal decking configurations. Headed shear studs are welded through the deck into the top flange of the beam, maintaining specific stud clearances of one and a half inches minimum for two-inch deck and two and a quarter inches minimum for three-inch deck. A metal closure strip spans the deck discontinuity requiring a minimum beam flange width of seven inches for two-inch deck and eight and a half inches for three-inch deck, or individual closures at each high deck flute for narrower beams. A two-inch minimum bearing is provided typically at the beam support with reinforcement detailed per plan.
