A lateral tie plate splice is centered over a tie plate on a supporting glued-laminated timber beam. The assembly incorporates a continuous 3/8 x 2 inch plate where applicable, secured with countersunk fasteners positioned beneath the splice plate. Specified splice lengths are provided per schedule, allowing a complete joint penetration weld at the contractor's option in lieu of the splice plate. Additional connections feature 5/16 and 7/16 inch welds at the lateral tie plate mark 8, maintaining a maximum 1 inch gap typical.
