An open web steel joist bears on a wide flange steel beam supporting a metal deck, with a one-half inch clearance between joist ends. An uplift brace consisting of an L2x2x1/4 angle (or L2-1/2x2-1/2x1/4 if length exceeds six feet) connects from the panel point at the top chord of the joist down to the beam web or support. A 5/16 inch by 3 inch by 1 foot 4 inch plate is welded near side and far side to the top flange with three-sixteenths inch typical fillet welds, providing two total plates. Three-sixteenths inch typical fillet welds secure the structural angles to their connecting plates.
