An open web steel joist bears on a column equipped with a cap plate and a web stiffener. A three-eighths-inch by four-inch by one-foot-zero-inch plate is required at the connection, welded with quarter-inch fillet welds on both sides. A typical stiffener plate is provided below the joist. The bottom chords of the steel joist are left unwelded to the stabilizer plate unless noted otherwise. Metal roof deck spans above the assembly, and supporting girders and beams are omitted for clarity.
