An open-web steel joist frames flush with the top flange of a supporting steel beam using a manufacturer-provided flush connection. A web plate supplied by the joist manufacturer connects the joist to the steel beam web using bolts sized and coordinated with the joist manufacturer. A three-eighths-inch stiffener plate is welded to the steel beam web to reinforce the connection, with its location and attachment coordinated with the joist supplier. Metal roof deck bears on top of the steel beam and joist top chord.
