An HSS post connects to a concrete footing via a 1 1/4-inch Grade 50 base plate secured by four 1/2-inch diameter F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods and a 1/2-inch uplift plate below. The base plate is welded with a complete joint penetration weld. The post features a vertical plate where required per plan, a 3/8-inch clear typical gap, and a 4-inch by 1/4-inch plate at midheight. The footing contains number 5 horizontal and vertical reinforcing bars at 12 inches on center each face, number 5 top and bottom bars at 12 inches on center with four minimum, number 5 dowels at 12 inches on center where slab-on-grade occurs typically, and L2x2x1/4 by 3 1/2-inch angles on each side extending to engage at least 2 inches of the gabion basket bottom bent plate.
