An L3x3x3/16 angle brace connects to a 1/4"x5 square or full-depth stiffener plate welded to the bottom flange and web of a steel beam with a 3/16" fillet weld. A 3/4" diameter machine bolt secures the brace to the gusset plate. High-strength bolts are specified where the beam is part of a moment frame. The top connection is detailed on sheet S5.1.
