Two aligned cold-formed steel top tracks meet at a butt joint over framing studs. An internal splice stud segment matching the track size and gauge is inserted ten inches long across the joint. Two self-tapping sheet metal screws fasten each track flange on each side of the joint, totaling eight screws across the assembly.
