A one-inch-thick bearing plate is positioned beneath a concrete structural member, supporting a hanger plate connected by a complete joint penetration weld to the bottom of the column base plate. A vertical knife plate extends upward from the base plate, attached with a complete joint penetration weld to the top of the base plate and welded directly to the column. Welded bars and hooked reinforcing bars tie into the knife plate to anchor the assembly within the concrete element.
