A steel beam frames into a column web using a three-eighths-inch shear plate with erection bolts as required. The shear plate is welded to the column with a five-sixteenths-inch weld along three sides at the extended plate, designated as type W per schedule 2/S6.01. An eight-inch dimension and a three-quarters-inch maximum clearance are provided between the beam flange and the column face. Extended shear plates are used where indicated with an asterisk on plan. Similar conditions apply for beams framing on both sides of the column web.
