Openings smaller than one foot by one foot require diagonal reinforcing bars only with side bars omitted. Openings larger than one square foot not shown on structural drawings, as well as multiple holes spaced closer than three times the largest opening dimension, require submission to the structural engineer for review. Trim bars extend with a one foot six inch minimum length typically, and require standard hooks where the deck edge occurs closer than eighteen inches from the opening.
