A structural steel column bears on a steel base plate set on non-shrink grout atop a concrete footing and concrete pier. Anchor bolts embedded in the footing secure the base plate connection. A blockout in the concrete slab on grade surrounds the base, poured solid after the steel column has been installed. The concrete pier features vertical reinforcement and three ties within the top five inches.
