A steel framing connection joins a girder to a vertical column using a three-quarter-inch cap plate secured by two three-quarter-inch diameter A307 machine bolts at each end. Three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to the column web and cap plate with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. A separate plate per detail six on sheet SD.4 is notched and welded to the beam shear plate with five-sixteenth-inch welds at an eight-inch spacing. A steel beam is omitted for clarity at the column centerline, where a complete joint penetration weld is indicated.
