An isolated opening in a non-composite metal deck is framed with an L3x3x3/16 angle sized to the width of the opening plus three feet, secured with a one-eighth-inch one spot weld in each flute. Metal deck manufacturer closure pieces seal the edge condition, and three-sixteenth-inch typical welds attach framing elements. Openings smaller than six inches by six inches require no framing, while multiple openings must maintain a twenty-inch minimum clearance between them. Maximum spacing for framing members is restricted to sixteen inches.
