The first pour and second pour concrete slab on grade sections meet at a construction joint with a two-inch typical clearance. The concrete interface is intentionally roughened to one-quarter inch and cleaned free of laitance. Reinforcement continues across the joint since the slab functions as a structural diaphragm, utilizing a thirty-two inch lap splice. A saw cut is made on the fresh side of the joint similar to a crack control joint. The contractor must submit a slab on grade pour plan for engineer review prior to pouring, keeping maximum pour dimensions to two hundred feet with a two-to-one maximum aspect ratio.
