An HSS4x4 hollow structural section post extends upward as a cantilever parapet up to three feet maximum, supported by a lower HSS14x structural member. The base of the post features a half-inch by four-inch by one-foot base plate secured with four five-eighths-inch diameter welded threaded studs and three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds to the HSS. A shear plate connection using three-eighths-inch by two-inch by nine-inch plates with slip-critical bolts ties the framing together, featuring slot plates on the near side and five-sixteenth-inch welds at each end. A light gauge built-up header or sill frames the upper parapet assembly per plan.
