Dowel sizing varies based on slab depth dimension "D", using number 3 bars at twelve inches on center if depth is less than or equal to two and one-half inches, number 4 bars at twelve inches on center if depth is greater than two and one-half inches and less than or equal to four and three-quarters inches, and number 5 bars at twelve inches on center if depth exceeds four and three-quarters inches. The metal deck spans in either direction with a development length denoted as Ld.
