A wide-flange steel beam connects to a hollow structural section column via a connection plate that passes through a slot in the column. The column is capped with a one-quarter-inch cap plate welded to the column top. A connection plate extends where the beam occurs, secured with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. Bolt requirements and connection plate thickness are sized per the beam connection schedule.
