An L4x4x1/4 angle with a six-foot maximum length serves as a lateral brace between an existing wide flange beam and an open web joist supporting a concrete-filled or bare metal deck. The brace connects at each end using a three-quarter-inch diameter A490 slip-critical bolt centered in the angle leg, accompanied by optional welded connections at the contractor's discretion. A three-eighths-inch full depth stiffener plate is welded to the web of the wide flange beam with five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides, providing local reinforcement at the lower brace connection. A three-eighths-inch connection plate welded to the open web joist secures the upper end of the brace. Minimum edge distances and leg clearances are maintained at two and three inches respectively across the structural steel connections.
