Beam penetrations pass through the top of a non-load-bearing concrete masonry unit wall for both concrete beam and steel beam conditions. A beam pocket is framed into the top of the masonry wall with vertical reinforcing bars placed on each side according to the CMU non-load bearing wall reinforcing schedule, complete with hooks at the top of wall. Two number five horizontal reinforcing bars are provided at the top course bond beam. A one-and-one-half-inch minimum separation is maintained between the masonry wall and the concrete beam, or the fireproofing on the steel beam.
