A wide-flange beam sits above a hollow structural section column with a one-inch vertical clearance. Three-eighths-inch thick plates are welded to each side with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld typical. A three-quarter-inch diameter A307 bolt with a standard washer is centered in a thirteen-sixteenths-inch by two-and-one-half-inch vertical slotted hole, hand tightened and with spoiled threads to allow movement. One-quarter-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web. An optional three-sixteenths-inch field weld is specified to be applied on three sides where the lower beam intersects.
