A built-up wide flange diagonal splice connection incorporates grade sixty-five side plates and stiffener plates on each side. The web of the built-up member connects to the flange continuously between splices using five-sixteenths fillet welds. Side plates of four-inch and two-and-one-half-inch thicknesses are welded with complete joint penetration welds using E eighty electrodes. Transverse stiffener plates are positioned along the members with specified clearances and weld sizes. Additional gusset plates and tapered flanges align with the side plates to complete the heavy structural load transfer assembly.
