A structural steel beam connects to a column web or flange using top and bottom gusset plates secured by slip-critical bolts. The connection incorporates a plate configuration per typical beam-to-column flange or web conditions, with complete joint penetration welds top and bottom. Bolt spacing includes a three-inch on-center vertical pitch with one-and-a-half-inch edge distances and minimum two-inch clearances. The beam flange is detailed with a specific cut profile and weld preparation on three sides.
