A spliced connection between hollow structural section members features a one-inch minimum gap and aligned outside faces. The upper tubular member connects via partial-joint-penetration welds and quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides. The lower tubular member utilizes seven-eighths-inch diameter A325 through-bolts installed in one-and-a-half-inch vertical slotted holes with two-inch edge distances and three-inch spacing. All mating tube faces are specified to align continuously.
