A slotted hollow structural section beam frames into a supporting steel column centered on the column centerline below. A three-eighths-inch stiffener plate is welded to each side of the steel beam, centered on the column. Angles measuring four by four by one-quarter inch by three inches long attach to each side of the stiffener plate. Three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds secure the hollow structural section to the angle on three sides, and three-sixteenths-inch welds attach the components typically around three sides.
