Steel beams of equal depth connect to opposite sides of a steel column flange using welded shear tabs and high-strength bolts. A single plate shear tab, sized with a thickness equal to the beam web plus one-quarter inch, is welded to the column flange and bolted to the beam web with a designated number and size of bolts. A second row of bolts is provided as required by structural calculations. Continuity plates are welded to the top and bottom flanges of the column, using the larger thickness of either flange TF1 or TF2 to reinforce the column web against applied moments.
