Where lap splice lengths are noted on plan or details, provide the applicable length based on concrete placement conditions above and below the reinforcing bars. For bars with less than or equal to twelve inches of concrete below the bar, standard lap splice lengths apply. For conditions with greater than twelve inches of concrete below the bar, increased top bar lap lengths are required.
