A wide-flange steel column base plate is anchored to a concrete foundation or footing. The assembly is secured by four ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor bolts equipped with plate washers and leveling nuts below the base plate, and double nuts with plate washers at the bottom embedment. Fillet welds connect the column flanges and web to the base plate, stopping short of the K1 region inside the flange as specified. A layer of non-shrink grout fills the gap beneath the base plate, and the entire base plate and anchor bolt assembly is encased with a minimum three inches of concrete cover below the slab on grade. Accompanying anchor bolt assembly and embed schedules dictate sizing and embedment depths based on column depth and building height.
