An HSS beam frames into a steel column with a maximum one-half inch gap maintained between members. A three-eighths by three-inch plate welds to each side of the HSS beam end. An L4x4x3/8 angle attaches at both the top and bottom of the beam, with its width matching the column flange width. Five-sixteenths fillet welds secure the angles and plates to the column and beam. A similar connection repeats on each side of the column.
