A W6x or C6 steel beam connects to a supporting wide-flange column web using a welded shear tab. The shear tab is shop-welded to the column flange or web with a weld symbol indicated by tail notes. The supported beam web fastens to the shear tab with two or three bolts spaced at three inches vertically, with standard edge distances of one and one-half inches. The top flange of the beam is coped to clear the column flange, providing a one and one-half inch clearance from the face of the support.
