A structural steel wide-flange beam connects to its support using a welded shear plate and bolts sized per schedule. The shear plate is welded to the supporting member and fastened to the supported beam web with three bolts spaced at three inches typical. Edge distances include one and a half inches typical vertically, with two-inch and three-inch minimum horizontal dimensions, maintaining a one-half-inch maximum joint clearance.
