A broken back steel beam supports roof deck assemblies on both sides of a sloped ridge transition. The connection utilizes a continuous one-quarter by two-inch steel plate located at the centerline of the beam, welded with a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld with two to twelve spacing typically applied to the broken back flanges and web. A vertical bolted web connection plate ties the intersecting beam segments together underneath the roof deck.
