A wide-flange beam frames into an HSS column using a plate detailed as thickness t times length L times width W with erection bolts as required per schedule. The HSS column is slotted as required, with the plate slot sized one-sixteenth inch wider than the plate itself. A trim plate is provided at one-sided connections, maintaining a half-inch clearance to the end of the plate. At the top of the HSS column, a quarter-inch cap plate is installed with a continuous seal weld all around. Fillet welds of size t1 are applied to three sides typically, while welds of size t2 connect the plate components. Dimension X and the schedule are referenced to specific plan details.
