A wide flange beam frames into the web of a wide flange column, secured by a shear plate and high-strength bolts sized per plan. Top and bottom plates welded to the column flanges reinforce the connection, utilizing a one-half-inch plate for five or fewer bolts and a five-eighths-inch plate for more than five bolts. A five-sixteenths inch fillet weld typically attaches the plates to the column flanges. AISC K1 requirements govern the web stiffener and clearance detailing. Dimensions establish the vertical spacing and centerline offsets for the framing members.
