A keyed construction joint is located at the slab mid-depth for concrete slabs on grade or elevated decks. The joint features a 1V:3H slope profile painted with a curing compound acting as a bond breaker before the adjacent slab is placed. A minimum one-eighth-inch joint opening is maintained between placements. The keyway depth is proportioned at one-tenth of the total slab thickness T, and positioned one-quarter of the thickness T from the top surface.
