A steel girt connects to a hollow structural section column through a welded shear plate and three seven-eighths-inch erection bolts. The continuity plates are sized to match the beam flange thickness plus one-eighth of an inch and are welded to the column using a complete joint penetration weld typically. The top and bottom flanges of the girt receive a three-eighths-inch partial joint penetration weld to the continuous plate assembly. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld is applied to three sides of the shear plate connection.
