An open-web joist bearing connection occurs at a wide-flange steel beam supported by a steel column. The five-inch deep joist bearing end connects with two one-half inch diameter erection bolts and a top weld assembly, carrying a profiled steel deck above. A custom angle section, specified as L5x5x3/8 matching the column width with a three-eighths inch stiffener plate, welds to the steel beam with quarter-inch fillet welds. A steel cap plate finishes the column top, while a stabilizer plate attaches to the column web with three-sixteenths inch welds. Per the drawing notes, bottom chords remain left unwelded to the stabilizer plates unless noted otherwise.
