Typical column cap plate configurations for both hollow structural section columns and wide flange columns. The hollow structural section column detail utilizes a three-eighths inch thick cap plate for columns sized six by six inches or smaller, and a half-inch thick cap plate for columns seven by seven inches or larger. The wide flange column detail specifies a half-inch thick cap plate for wide flange ten or wide flange eight sections, and a seven-eighths inch thick cap plate for wide flange fourteen or wide flange twelve sections. Shear tabs are provided where indicated to frame connecting beams into the column assembly. Weld sizes are designated as half the web thickness typically at the web, and three-eighths inch typically at the flange.
