This detail defines the required geometry for staggered lap splices in reinforcing bars to manage congestion and development length. The preferred option offsets the lap splices by a distance of 0.5 times the required lap length (ls) between adjacent bars. The alternate option for congested areas increases the offset distance to 1.0 times the lap length (ls) to further separate the splice zones. Both configurations maintain the specified lap length (ls) for each individual bar splice.
