A structural steel W14 column extends into a heavily reinforced concrete foundation and mat slab assembly, anchored by a twenty-five inch square base plate. The foundation includes typical mat reinforcement consisting of sixteen number eleven top and bottom bars of Grade 80 steel, detailed with number five ties spaced at four inches on center. Additional two-by-ten plates are welded typically to the embedded column flanges for load transfer into the concrete. The entire assembly sits atop supporting structural elements visible below the foundation block.
