A full-penetration welded splice connects an upper and lower steel column. Complete penetration welds require ultrasonic testing for all typical direct complete welds. A transition weld per American Welding Society standards applies where column flange widths differ, following American Institute of Steel Construction typical requirements. Seismic access holes are provided at the connection per American Institute of Steel Construction 341 standards. Erection aids are to be provided by the contractor and are not shown in this detail.
