Reinforcing steel lap splices require a development length determined per schedule with a maximum offset slope of six to one if required for alignment. Standard hooks include both ninety-degree and one-hundred-eighty-degree bends with specified development lengths equal to twenty-two times the bar diameter. Critical sections for hook anchorage are located eight bar diameters from the bend tangent for number seven bars and smaller, and ten bar diameters for number eight bars and larger. Extension tails measure twelve bar diameters for ninety-degree hooks, and four bar diameters or two and one-half inches minimum for one-hundred-eighty-degree hooks.
