This assembly features a hollow structural section column welded to a 3/4-inch thick steel base plate with a 1/4-inch fillet weld around the perimeter. The base plate is secured to the concrete footing using four 3/4-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods, each equipped with heavy hex nuts or rod heads. A 1 1/2-inch layer of non-shrink grout is provided between the base plate and the top of the footing. The anchor rods require a minimum 8-inch embedment depth and a 1 1/2-inch minimum projection above the grout. The column end and the top of the base plate must be finished to ensure proper bearing, and all anchor rod holes in the base plate must conform to American Institute of Steel Construction recommended sizes.
