A stair stringer connects to a structural beam with a gap and an L4x4x1/2 by four-inch angle secured by a one-half-inch diameter bolt in a long slotted hole to allow differential movement. A three-eighths-inch stiffener plate is welded to the beam web with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides. A foam blockout is provided in the surrounding concrete around the stringer connection to facilitate stringer movement, maintaining a minimum five-inch clearance and a one-half-inch gap at the structural interface.
